Less Scroll, More Soul is a week-long initiative designed to inspire families to unplug from their electronic devices and connect to what really matters: each other. This effort was developed by Joe Harris Elementary principal Trent Heffner as a response to increasing technology use and it’s negative impact on student behaviors and outcomes. Technology can be valuable, fun and even educational, but it needs to be used safely and responsibly, especially with young children who are developing lifelong habits. This important responsibility is best shared among families, educators and the community, and Less Scroll, More Soul lets us all take part in that responsibility, together.
During Less Scroll, More Soul week, JHE plans daily screen-free activities and events for families to do together such as enjoying the outdoors at a park or on a hike, connecting over a family game night, or attending events at JHE.
Less Scroll, More Soul week will take place in early 2027.
Visit the Less Scroll, More Soul website to learn more and access valuable resources to help your family safely navigate the digital world.
Read the guest column “Digital access has consequences for children” written by principal Trent Heffner for the Rio Rancho Observer in April 2025 to learn more about this important topic.
