RRPS Background Check

Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Some volunteer positions will require completing the RRPS background check process.

An RRPS background check is REQUIRED for the following positions:

• Volunteering in situations where you will interact with students
• Volunteering in a classroom
• Chaperoning a field trip
• Serving as a PTO Committee Lead
• Serving on the JHE PTO Board

An RRPS background check is NOT required for the following activities:

• Volunteering in the workroom with the Helping Hands committee
• Setting up/cleaning up in the Staff Lounge with the Staff Appreciation Committee
• Attending Jog-a-thon to cheer on your students on the field
• Attending Fall Carnival or other school-hosted event after school hours
• Attending a Retriever Round Up assembly 
• Attending the family Thanksgiving meal or Family BBQ in the spring

Per New Mexico state law, school volunteers (situations where volunteers interact with students) are required to complete an FBI background check.

Steps:

1. Visit the RRPS Volunteers page for complete information.
2. Complete the RRPS Volunteer Application form and allow up to 3 business days for your application to be processed by RRPS.
3. Complete the FBI background check. Info will be provided by RRPS after your application has been processed. The background check cost is $59.00 and will be valid for 2 years from the date of the approval. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
4. Complete the HB 128 questionnaire and the state mandated SafeSchool training, provided by RRPS. Please note that the required FBI background check, HB 128 questionnaire and SafeSchool training courses must be completed within 30 days of your initial application before you will be eligible to begin volunteering.
5. Receive an email from RRPS with a decision.
6. If approved, start volunteering!
